Budget Blues

Southeast Alaska's great outdoors come at a price

The great outdoors comes at a price in AK

I’m sick this morning.

I’ve been up off and on with chills since 2 am. So I did what normally makes me want to hide under the covers: my budget.

Juneau is expensive. This is probably a major reason it’s not on “top ten” lists

Juneau has a plethora of world-class hiking trails, a phenomenal downhill ski area, heli ski options, Nordic ski spots, amazing kayaking routes, stellar trail running, pretty good rock climbing/bouldering and many other outdoor activities.

However, there was a 15% cost of living increase when I moved to Juneau (30,000 residents) from Minneapolis (1 million residents).

My conclusion: I need a second income. (Suggestions welcome) Annnd…I’m going back to bed.

  1. Staying in bed is an inexpensive, comfy option. I see a post titled Climb-it Change…got to go check that out. I used to hate getting out of bed, shivering my way through the lighting of the wood stove ceremony, then run back for the comforter while the cabin warmed up to bearable. Off to climb-it change.
    Later…
